The amazing Niagara Falls.. overnight trip from Newyork!

We were in newyork and decided to visit Niagara Falls ( the US side) for 2 days. We did do a lot of research to figure out the optimum time, how to ge there etc. finally decided to go through a tour. One can also driver down to niagara or take the public buses  however the last mile connectivity was a challenge.
We took the Take Tours tour and met our tour guide at 8am at the designated spot. And off we were to witness the miracle of nature.
Niagara Falls is a good 7-8hr Bus ride from NYC. Enroute there are some beautiful sights one shouldn’t miss. First stop was the Corning glass museum - a glass museum which also demonstrates the process of glass blowing. After spending 2 hours including lunch we set off to the next spot - Glen Watkins State park. I really was amazed by the state parks and photos I had seen so far and was glad we made this stop. A nice, refreshing walk through nature, upto an awesome waterfall and one hour later we felt as refreshed as ever! Highly recommend!!

Now off to Niagara! Cant contain the excitement!
We reached Niagara to witness the immense power of the Falls at Night. Mesmerizing.. no words at all to describe the beauty. Awestruck! We then called it a night to wake up early as we were to ride up to the falls!

Next morning, we got up early to start our day at Whirlpool state park - where we could see Canada right across the river. A quick photo op and we moved on to Niagara Fort. Lovely weather, beautiful landscapes and a zillion photos later we made it to the Falls. We then took our tickets and proceeded to the Cave of Winds. This gives you views of the American falls and bridal falls. You look up and the sprays from the falls hits you right on.

Post that we proceeded to the main attraction - the Maid of the Mist boat ride. The excitement was at its peak. We proceeded down the lift, wore out ponchos and boarded the boat. The boat takes you right up to the main Horseshoe falls and then takes a turn and comes back. And its something you should not miss!! It is so awesome! The might of the falls, the cold water, the speed and the wind.. OMG. Experience of. Lifetime!
P.S. make sure to keep your phones and other valuables in a plastic cover as you will get a bit wet.

With the adrenaline still rushing, we started our journey back to NYC.

Bhutan : Measuring the Gross National Happiness - The Planning & Itinerary

Its been a year or two since we had been planning to visit Bhutan. Finally this October it materialized. The Kingdom of Bhutan is a beautiful country nestled in the Himalayas known to be the happiest nation in the world and that got us curious. Bhutan is pretty big and given we had about 8-9 days we could cover only the north-west towns of Bhutan. Bhutan is a country with a different view every 90 degrees- simple beautiful; right out of a picture postcard! You wont get tired of clicking pics.. Bhutanese people are very content and none are in a hurry to get anywhere. There are no traffic signals, no crime; an easy going life with immense love for the King.  Almost everything in Bhutan is regulated by the Govt including tourism which helps control the number of tourists in the country and maintain the biodiversity.  Its not too much of a DIY country in-terms of planning itinerary and booking your stay. We set out enquiring with a few recommendations we got from friends to...

The magic of Prague... a 3 day itinerary

My fascination with the Czech Republic and Prague started with my dad's stories of his stay in CzechSlovakia way back in the 60s and 70s. Hence Prague just had to be on my list!  I took a early morning bus from Berlin (pre-booked on FlixBus) and landed in Prague around 12 noon at the main railway station. My German number decided not work as soon as I crossed the border and hence I had no internet. I enter the railway station to realize that everything is in Czech! With the help of some broken English and sign language managed to get a new sim (Vodafone was a recognizable name :P) and activate it. Phew! Now I was ready to take on Prahaaaaa...  I had booked an Air B&B close to Wenceslas square only to realize it is a bit of a distance from the happening places around Old Town Square. Tip of the day: live closer to where all the attractions are and that's in and around Old Town Square. Trust me, you will realize this when you have to walk back after a long day ...

Egypt, witness an ancient civilization unfold.. a 3 day itinerary

Being a 90s kid and growing up watching cartoons and movies on Egyptian pharaohs I have always dreamt of immersing myself in this mystical civilisation. Hence we decided to spend a few days in Cairo.  Egypt, over the last few years had had a bit of unrest and as a result we decided to restrict ourselves to the most touristy city - Cairo.  We planned about 3 days in Cairo hoping to get a complete flavour of the country.  Where to stay in Cairo - this was a dilemma - whether to stay with the view of the Pyramids or the city. We chose the city since we did read (and later experienced) that the area around the Pyramids is quite a slum. We chose one of the Hiltons over looking the Nile.  Day 1 - understanding how things work in Cairo! English isn’t a commonly spoken language. Even taxi plates are in Arabic! Post checking-in the first thing was to book an Uber. Only to realise we couldn’t figure out which was our car - couldnt read the number plate you see.. with some diff...
